INTUITIVE USER INTERFACES, SEAMLESS INTEGRATION, MAXIMUM SAFETY.

The future of driver information systems lies in innovative head-up display solutions. The key to seamless integration? Customised systems that are precisely tailored to the requirements of modern vehicle architectures.

We design and implement advanced HUD systems that offer an immersive driving experience with their real-time data processing and razor-sharp projection technology.

SERVICES

We are a close HUD development partner for OEMs. We offer the following development issues.

New HUD development

A head-up display (HUD) with mirrors and picture generation unit (PGU) is developed based on given installation spaces and the windscreen.

  • This primarily involves the optical design of the mirror surfaces and the necessary shading walls for reflection-free operation
  • Checking whether the HUD-capable windscreen is suitable for HUD technology based on the radii of curvature (radius progression) and the formation of double images.
  • Design of the covering glass (dust protection) taking into account possible double images due to multiple reflections in combination with the windscreen
  • Checking the correct position of the black panel and the mirror bank
  • Reflection simulations (sun positions and internal multiple reflections, reflection paths)
  • Provision of the picture generation unit (PGU)

HUD assessment/analysis

Evaluation of the imaging properties of the newly developed HUD or an existing system.

Important optical parameters are:

  • Analysis of image quality (ZEMAX, SPEOS)
  • Image sharpness depending on the position of the virtual image
  • Magnification (are individual pixels perceived or not)
  • Image stability in conjunction with head movements
  • Visibility of the image in all positions within the specified eyebox
  • Field of view, or in other words: the size of the virtual image
  • Distance of the virtual image (distance at which the image is perceived and displayed in focus)
  • Disparity examination (simulation of seeing with both eyes): Is the horizontal disparity the same everywhere? The vertical disparity should be as small as possible.
  • Simulations taking into account the spectral properties of light and its polarisation
  • Analysing the susceptibility to scattered light (SPEOS): Internal and external causes of scattering
  • Identification and suppression of reflection paths in collaboration with the Design department and the OEM

Design

  • Construction of the HUD shafts based on the results from optics and lighting technology
  • Implementing the fastening of the mirrors and the kinematics
  • Assembly, noise/vibration/harshness (NVH), tolerances and long-term stability
  • Integration of further assemblies from electronics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • Integration into the installation space under the dashboard, taking the vehicle tolerances into account

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

  • Simulation of the temperature load for specified operating conditions
  • Design of the heat sink

Electronics

  • Development of the circuit boards for the picture generation unit (PGU), the motor control and the fan in the HUD

Software

  • 3D HUD creator
  • LED control

Design

  • Defining the design of the display elements

Measurement laboratory

HUD measuring station

  • Picture quality
  • Long-term stability

  • Series support

HUD evaluation

  • Inspection of a HUD from a supplier to check whether it is suitable for the vehicle as the OEM requires
  • For one vehicle or other derivatives
